I was really grabbed by an
article on Chessvibes regarding managers in chess. The title of the article is "Who’s Britney’s manager?" and it featured a picture of Britney Spears. It was a stroke of genius on the part of Arne Moll to write the article and grab reader attention through unique flagging.
The question then arises to me, "Who is My Manager?". That brings up a whole group of questions like "does a chess blogger need a manager?". Anyhow, at the moment I appear to be my own manager ... booking events, organizing chess social coups, and generally arguing with myself how much percentage is fair payment in contract.
I've been thus far lucky that nobody has asked me to justify the great movements I've tried to spark. I started a chess blogger group on facebook just as Franco Romagnoli started his and as a consequence Franco signed over his group to my control. Pure dumb luck ... and I haven't yet brought that group to its full potential. It didn't happen through the genius engineering of a manager or an organizer ... I just got lucky.
The same thing happened with the blog carnival. I asked Jack Lemoine about the old Blog carnival that had all but died and it sparked a new carnival. I can't express my joy at that but it seems I'm only the rag doll of fate. There is a ton of other stuff developing too that I can't yet talk about. I guess in a way that makes my manager the Three Greek Fates.
