World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen is back for the 16-player Aimchess US Rapid, the 9th and last event on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour before the Final. It runs from August 28 to September 5 on chess24. The 3-day preliminary stage sees the players face each other once before the bottom 8 are eliminated while the top 8 advance to a knockout consisting of 2-day matches.

The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment per move from move 1. The knockout match-ups consist of 4-game matches on the first two days. If the match score is 1:1, two 5+3 games are then played followed, if needed, by Armageddon, where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4 but a draw counts as a win for Black. 1. imo, wesley shouldve kept going for the a5 pawn with the king. His ra6 defends the 6th rank. The white king cannot pass.

  2. 🎼🎼🎼 I am a ski bum, without a truck. I am a chess bum, without skills.
Hope there is to learn from Masters of Equanimity.
Caravans with chessboards & rice cookers would be great prizes. 🎼🎼🎼 JAR

  3. I know you don't have time to explain the reasons behind every move played, however I was wondering what the reason was that Magnus plays Bishop to C4 at 1:37? I'm still fairly new to chess and setups but I don't see what this move does for him? If someone could explain that'd be great!

  4. Listening to Agadmator's commentaries, I saw that Wesley So could have won, but… he decided against it.

  5. Magnus is like a wrecking ball. Don't stand in his way. Monster of the Endgame. Congratulations to everyone who makes it that far only to get crushed by him then.

  6. #suggestion Hi Agad, I thought in the last Morphy Saga video you said you want to make a shorter saga. I thought Botvinnik-Bronstein match on 1951 would be quite interesting, and (probably) the saga of these two gentlemen would be still far-off. Thanks!

  7. It’s in the endgame that, to me, the strength of these players really stands out – Wesley defended quite resourcefully considering Magnus had an outside passed pawn so far from Wesley’s king, but you get the feeling this is a routine conversion for Magnus even in rapid format.

  8. Never sacrifice pawns to magnus for development, the number of games I've seen on here where he wins because he is up a pawn in end game is large.

  9. It's nice to show such an instructive endgame, as opposed to middlegame brilliancies that the average player will never face.
